The Solar Centre is used as the site visitors centre and was constructed as a showcase to demonstrate how modern energy-saving practices can be used to create low-energy housing or offices.

The curved PV array forms the south-facing wall of the building and also shades the side walls utilising BP Solar technology. Heat recovery systems harness useful heat from the solar array and the occupied space, reducing heating demand. The building also features Pilkington K Glass energy-saving units, low energy lighting and raw materials from managed sources.
